(NewsNation) — As Catherine, Princess of Wales, took time to adjust and inform her children of her cancer diagnosis, Prince William and the rest of the royal family were bombarded by conspiracy theories, a royal family expert told NewsNation.
“Here is Prince William not only coping with the news of his father's cancer, his wife's cancer. … He's also a father to three young children,” said royal commentator Victoria Arbiter. “And he's been grappling with these unbearable conspiracy theories that have spiraled out of control on the internet in the last few weeks. So I think it's been a very challenging time for the family.”
Princess Kate said she underwent abdominal surgery for a condition believed to be noncancerous at the time but later found out that was incorrect.
Whether Princess Kate’s request for privacy will be granted by the British tabloids remains to be seen.
“What we're dealing with now is William and Kate's call for privacy,” said Arbiter. “We are not going to see the Princess of Wales back on the royal beach for the foreseeable future, because of course, her focus has to remain on a full recovery.”
