International Court of Justice orders Israel to prevent genocide inside Gaza

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) - The International Court of Justice is ordering Israel to take measures to prevent a genocide inside Gaza.

The White House stands by Israel but also says the goal of the order brought forward by South Africa’s government is something they support.

Friday, the International Court ordered Israel’s military to do all it can to prevent the death destruction and genocide of Palestinians.

"It should serve as a wake-up call for Israel,” said Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Malki.

The Palestinian foreign minister welcomes the ruling.

Both the White House and Israel reject allegations Israel is committing genocidal war crimes in Gaza.

"It's not only false, it's outrageous," said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Since Hamas launched its October 7th attack against Israel killing 1200 people, Israel’s military has killed more than 26,000 Palestinians in Gaza and displaced nearly 2 million.

"Our war is against Hamas terrorists. Not against Palestinian civilians,” Netanyahu said.

The court ruling is legally binding but not enforceable and stops short of calling for a ceasefire.

It does call on Hamas to release more than 130 Israeli hostages.

Friday, the White House said the U.S. remains focused on getting hostages out of Gaza and stands by Israel’s fight against Hamas.

"It is as vital now as it was on the 7th of October," said NSC Strategic Communications Coordinator, John Kirby.

As part of the ruling the court is requiring Israel to increase humanitarian aid inside Gaza.

Israel has about a month to prove it's following the U.N.'s demands.
