COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (KDVR) — University of Colorado Colorado Springs officials are responding after two people were found dead inside a dorm room Feb. 16.

"A tragedy like this is unimaginable," Colorado Springs Police Department Chief Adrian Vasquez said. "We stand with you as we navigate what lies ahead."

According to CSPD, on Friday, UCCS Police responded to a dorm room just after 6:05 a.m. and found two people dead, each with at least one gunshot wound.

"Today is a tragic day for UCCS," said UCCS Chancellor Jennifer Sobanet. "We are in shock as we process this tragic loss of two lives."

Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade reiterated that UCCS will be offering mental health resources to students who need them, and the City stands behind the university. "Together we are Colorado Springs and together we are Mountain Lion strong."

CSPD's Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation, and the Fourth Judicial District Attorney's Office will be the lead prosecuting agency.

"We don't believe at this point that there is an ongoing threat to the community," said Ira Cronin, Public Relations Manager for CSPD, who said this is being investigated as an isolated incident.
