Cael Sanderson chasing historic win

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WTAJ) - It's safe to say that Cael Sanderson has left an impact on the Penn State wrestling program. Since arriving in 2009, Penn State has won 10 NCAA National Wrestling Championships with more than 30 individual champions.

"What (Cael's) done here is historical," three-time national champ Aaron Brooks said.

Sanderson is now on the hunt for his 200th career win as the Nittany Lions head coach, a mark he can reach on Friday night against Iowa.

He would become the 12th active Division I head coach to win 200 matches with one team, joining the likes of Hawkeyes coach Tom Brands, Oklahoma State's John Smith and others.

Despite all of the success on the mat, he cherishes the memories and friendships created off of the mat.

"We've had a lot of great memories," Sanderson said. "My fondest memories are just the people, you know, the coaches, the alumni, the kids on the team and just those relationships. They're by far what I am most grateful for."

Sanderson and the Nittany Lions ride a 51-match winning streak into Carver-Hawkeye Arena for Friday's dual at 9 p.m. The match will be broadcasted on Big Ten Network.
