Actor Chris Evans waves off potential political bid: 'I don't think so'

(The Hill) -- “Captain America” star Chris Evans says he doesn’t expect his next leading role will be as a real-life lawmaker.

The 42-year-old actor, who launched the civic engagement site A Starting Point with Mark Kassen and Joe Kiani in 2019, was asked Monday at a National Press Club event in Washington whether he’s ever considered running for political office.

“You know, there was a time,” Evans said with a laugh.

“Being here [in D.C.], you realize how much goes into it,” the politically active performer said. “And I’m tired,” he quipped, before seemingly putting the kibosh on any potential political run: "I don’t think so."

“I think there are better ways to be a part of the world without having to do the work that goes into being an elected official,” he said.

Evans, who’s been critical of former President Trump in the past, said his work building up A Starting Point frequently brought him to the nation’s capital and made him “somewhat adjacent” to both politics and the media.

“We already had respect,” Evans, sitting alongside Kassen said, “but it just grew exponentially to see how hard it is to do what the elected officials do, and what [journalists] do.”
