Tesla is recalling almost 200,000 of its electric vehicles to fix a software problem that may prevent their rearview cameras from working when the cars are in reverse.
The recall includes certain 2023 Tesla Models S, X and Y that possess full self-driving technology. According to a report released this week by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue with the cars' rearview cameras was discovered when Tesla started receiving reports about it in late December. The agency said the problem could increase the risk of crashes.
Tesla is not aware of any deaths or crashes occurring due to the problem, according to the NHTSA report. The agency said the company has released a software update that can fix the issue and that owners will be notified with letters that will be sent by March 22.
Tesla had received 81 warranty claims possibly related to the problem as of Jan. 22, per the report.
Tesla has issued multiple recalls for its vehicles over the years. Most recently, the company recalled more than 2 million vehicles in December over a flaw with its Autopilot self-driving feature. The recall occurred after a two-year investigation by the NHTSA.
Tesla did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment.
