FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) – Police in Tennessee have released bodycam footage showing the arrest of former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler.
In October 2024, Cutler, 41, was arrested in Franklin after police responded to a minor traffic collision where he had rear-ended another vehicle. He allegedly attempted to flee the scene after offering the other driver $2,000 not to call the police, according to court documents.
Cutler, who played with the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins, was charged with driving under the influence, possession of a handgun while intoxicated, failure to exercise due care, and violation of the implied consent law.
Newly released bodycam footage from the Franklin Police Department shows officers responding to the crash. The victim immediately tells officers that Cutler tried to flee after the crash but was stopped by a dead end.
"He ran until he couldn't go nowhere," the other driver says.
After telling the drivers to gather their insurance information, an impairment officer is seen asking Cutler how much alcohol he consumed before the accident, to which he says, "none." The officer tells Cutler not to lie, prompting the former NFL player to admit he had "a little bit."
When asked by the officer, Cutler said he would not consent to a field sobriety test and was immediately placed in handcuffs.
Cutler's blood alcohol content registered at .23, according to Franklin police.
Cutler ultimately served two and a half days in the Williamson County jail in Tennessee. He was also sentenced to supervised probation for a year, during which he will be subjected to random and regular drug tests. Additionally, Cutler was ordered to pay a $350 fine, and his driver’s license was revoked.
The gun charge was dropped as part of his guilty plea.
Cutler was married to reality star Kristin Cavallari before their divorce in 2022. He retired from the NFL after a 12-year career in 2017.
