GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Colorado Mesa University’s women’s wrestling program is receiving its first-ever scholarship thanks to a partnership with local business ProSpace and owner Dave Huerkamp.

Huerkamp, who established a permanent endowment for the men’s wrestling team last year, said he was inspired to expand his support after seeing the program’s impact.

“I did an endowment to establish a permanent scholarship for men’s wrestling,” Huerkamp said. “I know this Crab Steak and Crab Fest is a huge event with a lot of supporters, so I decided that one needed to be created for the women’s program as well. That way, we could take advantage of matching funds and any donations to either the men’s or women’s scholarship will be quadrupled.”

The new scholarship marks a major step forward for CMU women’s wrestling, creating more opportunities for current athletes and paving the way for future Mavericks.
