Son of Yu Darvish strikes out three in 2 1/3 innings, Cathedral Dons walk-off Mira Mesa

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) -- With a flurry of pitches, Shoei Darvish showed the skills that we've already seen in Petco Park from his father. But make no mistake, this junior righty is doing it on his terms - but with some talented influence.

"He gives me a lot of advice," Darvish said. "Pitching mechanics, nutrition, everything you could ask for."

That advice was on display in his first start with Cathedral, as he struck out four batters and kept a clean sheet until a finger blister forced him to halt his start in the third inning.

"It was fun," Darvish said. "Unfortunately I had to come out due to an injury but I knew I got the guys behind me. We have a talented squad and I knew we could get the job done... Going into the game I was nervous, but now I've got the first game out of the way so I'm gonna cruise."

Mira Mesa fought valiantly, but lost on a walk-off hit by Cathedral's Kaden Kuhn. This makes for an impressive week for the team, after beating Eastlake the day prior.

Yu was in attendance, watching his son work the corners. He would later comment on social media about Shoei's start, saying "The pitching itself was good and he got some hits, but as a parent I was happy to see him playing to the best of his ability without any physical pain. He was also interviewed and showed kindness by praising his father, who didn't teach him much."

Shoei also lived up to the first name he shares with an MVP slugger by registering a hit in his first at-bat.
