SAN DIEGO (KUSI/KSWB) - Break out the broomsticks! The San Diego Padres sweep the Atlanta Braves to begin their 2025 MLB season.

It's also the first time the Padres have completed a four-game sweep since June of 2022, when the Friars swept the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

The marquee offseason signing for the Padres, Starting Pitcher Nick Pivetta, was a big reason why the Padres were able to seal the 4th win over Atlanta on Sunday.

His final line:

7 Shutout Innings Pitched, 1 Hit, 0 Walks, and 4 Strikeouts on just 82 pitches thrown in his quality start where he faced the minimum.

But Pivetta wasn't the only Padres pitcher dealing against the Braves in this series, the Friars held Atlanta to 22 consecutive scoreless innings to close out the four game set.

The Padres are now 4-0 to start the season for just the second time in franchise history. The only time prior that the Padres had started a season 4-0, was 1984, when they went on to eventually win the National League Pennant that season.
