SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Snapdragon Stadium will host the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship on Saturday, continuing the legacy of off-road motorsports in San Diego.

The event is the second race of the 2025 SuperMotocross World Championship, which brings together racers from around the world to show off their skills on a technically demanding racetrack.

The track at Snapdragon Stadium was made with 26 million pounds of dirt, formed to include air-inducing jumps and turns as well as other obstacles, according to event organizers.

In 1980, Supercross took place on the same grounds under the venue's former name, Jack Murphy Stadium. Since then, local professional motocross racers like Broc Glover, Ricky Johnson and Ron Lechien from El Cajon, as well as other big names in the sport including Jeremy McGrath, Ricky Carmichael, Chad Reed and James "Bubba" Stewart have battled it out on challenging obstacles under the bright stadium lights.

Billy Laninovich, 41, a veteran racer from Ramona, will be returning to the track this weekend. He came out of a 12-year retirement last season, making him the oldest rider to qualify for a main event.

The Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship begins with a FanFest, practice and qualifying event at 10:30 a.m., followed by opening ceremonies at 5 p.m. and the main event at 5:30 p.m.

All guests two and older are required to purchase a ticket. Children under two receive free admission, provided they sit on a parent or guardian's lap.

A separate ticket is needed for FanFest. To gain access to the event, guests may purchase tickets online or bring an empty Monster Energy can to a redemption location outside the stadium on Victory Drive. Ticket information can be found online.

FOX 5 is also offering a chance to win tickets to the Supercross event on Saturday. Click here for more details.

For early entry at 10:30 a.m., guests may enter through the northeast or east gates of Snapdragon Stadium. All gates will open at 3 p.m. Re-entry is not permitted after 3:30 p.m.
