KUSI (SAN DIEGO) - Fresh after pulling off what might be one of the biggest wins in program history, UCSD men's basketball has no plans on slowing down.
UCSD handing Utah State their first loss of the season in Logan. Entering the contest Utah State was one of the last handful of undefeated teams in the country. An intense atmosphere as well for the Tritons, as the Aggies were boasting a 42-3 record at home.
UCSD's 75-73 win over Mountain West opponent, posts a strong statement to others, easily putting a target on UCSD as the team to beat in the Mountain West.
Tritons' Tyler McGhie notching an impressive 26 points against Utah State.. McGhie reflecting.. "It shows that we can compete with anyone, on any given night when we go in with the right mentality."
UCSD improves to 10-2, and is off to their best start since moving to Division I in 2020.. and this is finally the first year the Tritons are eligible for the Division I NCAA Tournament.
When asked of the chance of making an NCAA Tournament appearance, McGhie saying, "I've been playing for 18 years. I mean that's something that I've dreamed of for a while."
Tritons Guard and Forward Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones also adding.. "Just to not get caught up in all the hype, we gotta stay together as a team and just keep building everyday."
A stat that puts thing into perspective.. NET Rankings. UCSD currently sits at 57, and who is just lying above them at 56? San Diego State who are currently ranked #23 in the AP Top 25 Rankings.
