PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) - Pinellas County commissioners will make a third attempt at voting on whether to approve bonds for the new Rays stadium, on Tuesday.
If approved the move would invest more than $300,000 in the new $1.3 billion ballpark. Previously, some commissioners expressed concerns about spending a large amount of money when families are still dealing with damage from recent hurricanes.
Additionally, some commissioners want tweaks to the deal. Vince Nowicki was elected to the commission after the deal was approved in July.
"There's a contract on the table, I think we can make a few amendments, cross out a few things, add a line or two here or there, and get it done," Nowicki said.
The delay in the commission's vote created a contentious back and forth with Rays leadership.
"We cannot keep having people move down here, signing our contracts, spending our money when it's pretty clear it's a negative vote in the county right now," Co-President Brian Auld previously said.
Early in December, team president Matt Silverman sent a letter saying the previous agreement is still in effect and the team is just waiting for the county to take action. St. Petersburg City Council has already approved the funding for their portion of the deal.
County commissioners are scheduled to vote during their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday. The meeting starts at 2 p.m.
