Moose on the Loose: Tom Thibodeau

NEW YORK (PIX11) – The New York Knicks are stable, they are well run, and they are going to be really good.

The news on Wednesday further emphasizes that very point. The Knicks have rewarded head coach Tom Thibodeau with a three-year contract extension. The 66-year-old is now signed through the 2027-28 season. He is now just the second head coach to receive an extension under owner James Dolan.

Thibodeau has guided the Knicks to the playoffs in three of his four seasons and is already the fifth-winningest coach in franchise history. He was the NBA Coach of the Year in 2021. When he was hired, Thibs called the Knicks job a dream come true.

Thibodeau does have his detractors. In the era of load management, he is a believer in playing his starters a lot. The “minutes police” are always around the corner.

Not every player would thrive under Thibs, but his success is not only the fact that he is a basketball lifer, but president Leon Rose and Thibs have a great synergy. Rose understands what Thibodeau needs to be successful.

It did not end well for Thibodeau in Chicago or Minnesota. In New York, he has been a Knicks fan's dream. He gets this city and loves this organization and has done a remarkable job coaching this team.

Take nothing away from Jalen Brunson, Julius Randle and everyone else. It is a players league, but the coach leads the way, and the Knicks rewarded a good one.
