Warriors eliminated from NBA postseason with loss to Kings

SACRAMENTO (KRON) -- The Golden State Warriors' season ended Tuesday night in Sacramento with a 118-94 loss to the Sacramento Kings in the NBA's Play-In Tournament.

For Sacramento, the win was sweet revenge after the Warriors eliminated them from the NBA playoffs last year. The Kings will next go to New Orleans to play the Pelicans on Friday with the Western Conference's final playoff spot on the line.

Golden State got off to a slow start, falling behind 25-15 in the first quarter and 38-22 in the second. Thanks in large part to their bench unit, they battled back and cut the deficit to four points at halftime.

However, the Kings regained control in the second half. They outscored the Warriors 37-26 in the third quarter and expanded their lead past 20 points in the fourth.

Second-year Kings' guard Keon Ellis guarded Stephen Curry for most of the night and held the superstar to 22 points. Ellis had 15 points, three steals and three blocks.

The other Splash Brother, Klay Thompson, was held scoreless on 10 shot attempts. It is possible that Tuesday was Thompson's final game in a Warriors uniform, as he is a free agent at the end of the season.

Forward Keegan Murray led the Kings in scoring with 32 points. De'Aaron Fox added 24. The Kings made 18 of their 39 3-point attempts, eight of which came from Murray.

The Warriors have now missed the NBA playoffs for the third time in five seasons. Sacramento will play the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday for a chance to make the playoffs for the second straight season.
