EBAL schools to collide in Vegas
Granada and San Ramon Valley are separated by about 20 miles. They both play in the East Bay Athletic League. One has yet to lose this season, the other is starting to find its groove.
Saturday night, 500-plus miles from home, they will meet in Las Vegas for the Bishop Gorman Invitational championship.
Granada routed St. Rita-Chicago 12-0 on Friday in a game called after five innings because of the mercy rule. The victory followed a 10-1 triumph over Legend of Parker, Colorado on Thursday.
The Matadors are 3-0 in the tournament and 15-0 on the season, which includes a 6-1 victory over SRV on March 13.
SRV, once 2-4, is now 9-4 after defeating Faith Lutheran-Las Vegas 4-1 on Friday for its seventh consecutive win.

No. 1 Granada 12, St. Rita-Chicago 0 (5 innings)
Riley Winchell went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and Tommy Brown and Tyler Kardy each drove in two runs to lead the Bay Area News Group’s top-ranked team to a dominant victory.
The Matadors also got a triple apiece from Chase Nadeau and Peyton Richards.
Granada scored three in the second and three in the third to open a 7-0 lead. The Matadors put the game away with four in the fifth.
Logan Robinson, Griffin Sutton and Bryce Berry held St. Rita to one hit.
St. Rita fell to 6-5.
No. 15 San Ramon Valley 4, Faith Lutheran-Las Vegas 1
Bryce Monte and Nate Simonton provided strong pitching and Lucas Glazier, Colin Linteo and Marco Jones each knocked in a run to lead San Ramon Valley to its seventh consecutive win.
The Wolves scored two in the third and two more in the sixth after Faith Lutheran had cut the margin to one.
Glazier and Linteo finished with two hits apiece.
Faith Lutheran dropped to 13-5.
No. 6 De La Salle 24, Freedom 1 (5 innings)
In a game delayed a day because of rain, De La Salle was clearly ready to play as the Spartans scored 12 in the first inning and 10 in the second.
Alec Blair went 3 for 3, scored three runs and knocked in three runs and Hank Tripaldi and Tyler Spangler each had two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs to lead the way in a nonleague game called in the fifth inning by mercy rule.
De La Salle finished with 20 hits and 22 RBIs as it improved to 8-3.
Nico Fesinmeyer drove in Freedom’s only run.
The Falcons are 8-7.
No. 10 Sacred Heart Cathedral 9, South San Francisco 1
Aaron Louis had three hits, including two doubles, and knocked in two runs as SHC rolled past tournament host South San Francisco.
John Porter Strother and Tate Medicoff each added two hits and an RBI as the Fightin’ Irish improved to 10-6.
Giovanni Bernal had an RBI for SSF (12-3).
No. 2 Valley Christian 2, Hollister 1 (8 innings)
A passed ball with the bases loaded brought in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth as Valley Christian edged Hollister in a nonleague game.
Tatum Marsh and Quinten Marsh each had two hits and Rohan Kassanagotu pitched 6 2/3 innings to help the Warriors improve to 15-2.
Hollister is 4-10.
No. 7 Bellarmine 8, Liberty-Henderson, Nevada 5
Matthew Vlahos homered and had two RBIs and Evan Tavarez had three hits and two RBIs to lead Bellarmine to a victory over Liberty at the Bishop Gorman tournament.
Bellarmine built an 8-2 lead through six innings and held off Liberty’s rally in the seventh to improve to 10-6.
Liberty is 10-11.
Softball
No. 4 Livermore 15, Carondelet 0 (5 innings)
Livermore scored 11 runs in the first inning and never looked back as it breezed past Carondelet in a nonleague game.
Laine Macosky went 3 for 3, which included a home run and a double, knocked in five runs and scored three runs to lead the way. Livermore also got two hits and three RBIs from Gianna Willes.
Livermore is 11-1. Carondelet fell to 5-5.
No. 14 Branham 12, No. 19 Leigh 1 (5 innings)
Jacqueline Connolly Hojas had four hits, including a home run and two doubles, and drove in five runs to lead Branham to a rout of archrival Leigh in a Blossom Valley Athletic League Mt. Hamilton Division game.
The Bruins also got three hits and an RBI from Alexis Bojorquez-Nava and a home run from Sarina Nunes as they improved to 12-6, 5-2.
Leigh is 6-6, 2-4.
No. 16 Los Gatos 11, Wilcox 1
Leading 1-0 after three innings, Los Gatos scored nine in the fourth to turn this Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division game into a rout.
Robyn Young knocked in two runs, Lily Young had three hits and Tessa Lilienstein and Grace Tucker each had two hits to lead the Wildcats.
Los Gatos is 11-2, 5-0. Wilcox slipped to 3-11, 2-4.
