GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The Oregon Ducks are moving on!
Why is that important to us here in Western Colorado? Well, maybe it's time to hop on the Ducks bandwagon because a key contributor for Oregon - Brennan Rigsby - has his roots on the Western Slope.
Rigsby was born and raised in De Beque. He won a state championship with the De Beque Dragons his freshman year before transferring to an elite basketball academy in Utah (Wasatch Academy).
And during Oregon's round one win, the Colbran Calfe in nearby Colbran was rocking as Rigsby and the 11-seed Ducks pulled away from 6-seed South Carolina.
"For Brennan, one of his goals has been to play in this tournament," said Brennan's Uncle Brock Rigsby, who was also an assistant coach on that State Champion De Beque team.
And it didn't take long for Uncle Brock to realize how special Brennan is.
"I just knew from the first practice. As hard as he works and the shot that he has and his athleticism. It was unbelievable."
Now let's see if Rigsby and the Ducks can make a run all the way to Phoenix for the Final Four - just as I predicted earlier this week.
