Oceanside twin caddies earn full scholarships

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5) -- Not too many people receive a full scholarship to college. But Anabelle and Ada Lee did it without even playing a sport.

“We were still sleeping. It was like 7 in the morning. Our dad brought the mail in and was like, ‘look what you got.’ We were screaming and cheering, it was incredible,” says Anabelle Lee.

The twins earned the Chick Evans Scholarship -- full housing and tuition college grant offered to golf caddies with exceptional academics.

“4.3 actually. Weighted. Unweighted it’s a 4.0,” says Anabelle.

The Monta Vista High school seniors’ were introduced to golf at five years old by their parents.

With mom and dad, both immigrants, the siblings worked hard to make them proud.

“Their sacrifices have been a huge inspiration for me because I want to do everything I can to support them, because they’ve done so much for us,” says Ada.

The Oceanside natives are the only girl caddies at Goat Hill Park.

The sisters want to make one thing perfectly clear: caddying is more than just holding a bag.

“We fix divots on the green, fill divots on the fairway, we carry their bag, clean their clubs before the round and after the round,” says Anabelle.

“We also give them advice, pick up anything they leave behind. So to keep them up and positive is a really big thing,” says Ada.

The twins walk about five miles each time they caddy at Goat Hill Park.

When asked if they could do it on the pro level, who would they caddy for, here's what they said.

“That’s a good question, I haven't really thought about that. I think any pro in eternal, I think it would be so interested to learn about their journey,” says Ada.

“I would like to caddy for someone on the LPGA. I always caddy for male players out here. So I'd like to caddy for a female payer and see what it's like,” says Anabelle.
