Bay FC defeat Angel City FC in inaugural game

(KRON) -- Bay Football Club earned their first victory against Angel City FC (1-0) in their inaugural game at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles on Sunday. The matchup brought an audience of 22,000 individuals.

Bay FC is the new team in the National Women’s Soccer League.

In the 17th minute, striker Asisat Oshoala scored the first goal for the franchises. Oshoala’s goal was assisted by midfielder Tess Boade, which was the first assist in Bay FC history.

Goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx secured eight saves.

The matchup was the first NWSL game for international players: Oshoala, Boade and Proulx.

Nigerian-born striker Oshoala is a six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year. Bay FC acquired the rights to Oshoala through a transfer with FC Barcelona Femení of Liga F in Spain in exchange for a transfer fee, the club announced on Feb. 1.

The Bay FC is set to compete next against the Washington Spirit at Audi Field on March 23.
