FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE) – Tulare Western graduate Jack Anker has earned himself a spot as Fresno State's Sunday starter. The sophomore leads all Mountain West pitchers in strikeouts this season with 26.
"This team is really special" said Anker. The Bulldogs are off to an (11-4) start and riding a three-game win streak. Fresno State won three of its four games this weekend, which includes a victory over No. 19 UC Irvine.
Anker has only allowed five runs scored in 25 innings pitched this season. He holds a perfect (4-0) record as a starter. "He's attacked hitters on the mound consistently. He's moving his fastball around and changing speeds" said head coach Ryan Overland.
The Tulare born right handed pitcher is one of fifteen Valley natives on the Bulldogs' roster. "The Valley is a hot spot for talent, especially baseball. For us to keep a lot of homegrown talent is pretty big" said Anker.
