Former Seahawks, 49ers star Richard Sherman arrested on suspicion of DUI in Washington

Super Bowl-winning cornerback Richard Sherman was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Washington early Saturday morning, according to multiple reports citing Washington State Patrol.

The Seattle Times reported that a judge in King County, Washington had found "probable cause that [the] former Seahawk" was driving under the influence.

He was stopped just after 2 a.m. on Interstate 405 in the city of Renton for going 79 miles per hour in a 60 mile per hour zone, the Seattle Times said.

"Sherman reportedly told troopers he had two margaritas," the Times reported. "He refused a breathalyzer but agreed to do some voluntary tests, according to [police]...Troopers said they observed signs he was under the influence and arrested him."

Additional reporting by ESPN confirmed that one of the responding officers noticed "'the odor of intoxicants'" from Sherman's breath and that he had "'bloodshot and watery eyes.'"

He is expected to have a court hearing on Monday, ESPN said.

Sherman, a Compton native and graduate of Manuel Dominguez High School, was previously arrested for DUI and four other misdemeanor charges in July 2021.

He eventually pleaded guilty to two of the misdemeanors while also being sentenced for first-degree negligent driving, second-degree criminal trespass and speeding in a roadway construction zone.
