Lauri Markkanen to compete in 3-point contest

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Sports) - Lauri Markkanen was not selected to play in his second straight NBA All-Star Game, but the Utah Jazz leading scorer is still going to be a part of All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis.

Markkanen has been confirmed to compete in the 3-point shooting contest to be held on Saturday, February 16.

Markkanen will compete against last year's 3-point champion and former Weber State star Damian Lillard, along with Malik Beasley of the Milwaukee Bucks, New York's Jalen Brunson and Tyrese Halliburton of the home town Indiana Pacers.

Markkanen is shooting 40.1 percent from three-point range this season, and is averaging 23.5 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.

Markkanen was a first-time NBA All-Star last year when the game was held in Salt Lake City.

The last time a Jazz player competed in the 3-point contest, Mike Conley lost in the finals to Stephen Curry at the 2021 All-Star Game.

Jeff Hornacek is the only Jazz player to win the 3-point contest, taking the title in 1998 and 2000.
