FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE) – The Fresno State men's basketball program is in the midst of conference play. The 'Dogs are coming off a loss to Colorado State on Saturday night. Fresno State (9-13, 2-7 MW) has a handful of new additions to the roster this year, including senior guard Isaiah Pope.

Pope averages nearly nine points per-game and has made an immediate impact in the backcourt. The six-foot-five guard decided to transfer to Fresno State from Utah Tech to learn from coach Justin Hutson, and be closer to his own family.

The Yerba Linda native grew up playing travel basketball with Isaiah Hill, the two still have a great connection and it translates on the hardwood.

"I knew Isaiah Hill from back in the day so, it made the most sense to me to come here" said Pope.

Pope is in his final year of eligibility. He'll be closing out his college basketball career at Fresno State. "As an older guy I want to be a leader and be someone the guys can look up to. Its been really good. I'm happy here and happy with my performance recently."

Despite Pope scoring in double figures in eight games this season, the Bulldogs are struggling losing seven of their last 10 games.

"We have a good group of guys when it comes to character. We don't let the negativity get to us. We stay positive, its on to the next play or next game" added Pope.

Fresno State returns to action on Tuesday, February 6 on the road at San Jose State. The Spartans are currently in last place in the Mountain West standings. Opening tip is scheduled for 7 pm.
