Bucs' Mayfield, Wirfs named to 2024 Pro Bowl roster; Mike Evans to miss event

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) -- Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield and star tackle Tristan Wirfs are headed to Orlando for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games.

On Tuesday, the National Football League announced that Mayfield would replace Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, who is unable to participate due to injury. Wirfs is replacing San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams, who is playing in this year's Super Bowl.

The NFL also shared that Bucs' star wide receiver Mike Evans, who was named to the initial roster, will miss the event due to injury.

According to the Buccaneers' Mayfield is the third quarterback in franchise history to earn a Pro Bowl selection in the player's first season with the team and the sixth Buccaneers quarterback to make the Pro Bowl.

The former No. 1 pick was the league-leading passer through the Divisional Round, completing 48 of 77 passes for 686 yards and sixth touchdowns, with two interceptions for a passer rating of 106.3. His passer rating is the highest postseason mark by a QB in franchise history, with his six passing touchdowns ranking second.

Additionally, the 28-year-old quarterback is the first quarterback in team history to have a postseason game with more than 300 passing yards and three or more touchdowns.

Wirfs, the four-year veteran who has spoken highly of Mayfield and his play, will now join the QB for one more game.

The tackle has been selected for the Pro Bowl in each of the past three seasons. Earning the recognition for the 2023 season, Wirfs joins Tony Mayberry as the only offensive lineman in franchise history with three consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl.

Since he was drafted in 2020, the Bucs have led the league in fewest sacks allowed per pass attempt, allowed the second-fewest total sacks (107), and the second-fewest quarterback hits (293) during that span.

The 2024 Pro Bowl Games will be held in Orlando, Florida, on Feb. 1-4. Fans can watch the events on ESPN.
