No. 3 Granada 64, No. 8 Dublin 50
Down three points at halftime, Granada exploded in the second half en route to a comfortable win over East Bay Athletic League rival Dublin at home.
A huge third quarter saw the Matadors outscore the Gaels 22-10. Senior NaVaughn Long scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half and Cortevious Taylor chipped in 16 points to lead the Matadors in the win.
Dublin made headway in the fourth quarter to get within four points at the 5:52 mark, but Granada went on a 10-2 to pull away late.
Granada coach Quaran Johnson said Granada’s growing rivalry with Dublin helped motivate his team coming into Saturday’s game.
“Since I became coach, we’ve been getting our tails kicked by Dublin,” Johnson said.
“To be at a place where we feel we can beat any team in the league is just special for the community, for the school and the players. It’s a rivalry with us and Dublin, but it’s a rivalry for us and everybody.”
Jalen Stokes led the way for the Gaels with nine points while Evan Bautista and Cameron Anderson each had eight.
Granada improved to 20-2, 6-1.
Dublin is now 18-6, 4-3.
No. 13 Sacred Heart Prep 54, Menlo Atherton 51
Sacred Heart Prep remained undefeated in West Bay Athletic League play with a three-point win over Menlo Atherton.
Senior point guard Drew Wagner drilled a deep 3-pointer with 11.8 seconds left to give the Gators a 52-51 lead. He finished with 18 points and junior power forward Matthew Norris added 12 points.
Sacred Heart Prep climbed to 15-4, 5-0 while Menlo Atherton dropped to 14-6, 3-3.
No. 5 San Ramon Valley 74, Foothill 50
The Wolves bounced back after a heartbreaking loss to Granada and defeated Foothill by double digits and improve to 20-4, 6-1.
Luke Isaak led San Ramon Valley 15 points. Senior guard Matthew Diekmann scored 12 and Elliot Conley had nine for the Wolves.
San Ramon Valley allowed no more than 11 points in the last three quarters of the game.
Senior Siddharth Swarup led all scorers with 23 points, 18 of which came in the first half.
Foothill dropped to 14-9, 2-5.
No. 7 Monte Vista 64, Amador Valley 45
The Mustangs bounced back after a surprising upset loss to Dougherty Valley a game before, beating Amador Valley behind 21 points from senior Daniel Cojocaru.
The Mustangs did not allow the Dons to score more than 12 points in a quarter.
Amador Valley guards Cade Krueger and Ori Khasin each had eight points in the loss.
Monte Vista improved to 20-4, 4-3. Amador Valley dropped to 15-9 and have yet to win a league game in seven tries.
Dougherty Valley 58, California 52
Jayden Doty scored 17 points, Aadi Malali added 14 points and the Wildcats beat California to capture its fourth straight league win.
Arman Martin scored 17 points for the Grizzlies and hit two 3-pointers.
Dougherty Valley has been surging as of late, improving to 15-9, 4-3 with the win.
California dropped to 11-12 and have lost six of its last seven games.
Girls basketball
St. Mary’s (Stockton) 71, No. 14 Salesian 51
A 42-point second half lifted St. Mary’s to a 20-point win over Salesian on the road in a non-conference game.
The Pride trailed 29-26 going into halftime, but were outscored 19-15 in the third quarter and 23-10 in the fourth.
Ayla Rege led Salesian with 13 points and Madalyn Kanazawa had 12.
St. Mary’s McDonald’s All-American Jordan Lee scored 23 points.
The Pride dropped to 12-9, but are still undefeated at 6-0 in Trinity League play.
No. 11 Archbishop Riordan 67, No. 12 St. Francis 55
Riordan completed the sweep of St. Francis in the regular season as the Crusaders cruised to a 12-point victory on the road.
The Lancers jumped out to a 19-9 lead, but Riordan came back to take a 36-34 lead at halftime. The Crusaders outscored St. Francis 31-21 in the second half to get the win.
Sophomore center Zion McGuire recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Maxine Sutisna led Riordan in scoring with 16 points and Ashanti Dias added 13.
St. Francis guard Caitlin Cadigal led all scorers with 20 points, including four 3-pointers in the first quarter.
Riordan moved to 13-5, 5-3 while St. Francis dropped to 14-5, 4-4.
No. 8 Pinewood 71, Marin Catholic 34
Alex Facelo’s 16-point performance left no doubt as Pinewood blew out Marin Catholic in a home non-conference game.
Junior Vallory Kuelker added 12 points and Katherine Garr scored 10 to go along with six rebounds.
The Panthers have been dominant in the past three games, defeating opponents by an average of 37.3 points.
Pinewood improved to 13-4, 5-0.
No. 2 San Ramon Valley 76, Foothill 27
The Wolves’ dominance in the East Bay Athletic League continued with their win over Foothill to improve to 22-1, 7-0.
Sofia Bowes and Amanda Kerner each scored 15 points for San Ramon Valley. Sierra Chambers added 14 points.
Sophie Ngyuen was Foothills leading scorer with nine points. Foothill dropped to 16-7, 2-5 with the loss.
No. 3 Carondelet 83, Maria Carrillo 44
Carondelet point guard Keshia Vitalicio scored a game-high 18 points which included four 3-pointers in a 39-point win over Maria Carrillo.
Stingy defense in the second quarter held the Pumas to just five points as Carondelet went into halftime with a 45-18 lead. Carondelet scored 38 second half points to close out Maria Carrillo at home.
Sophia Ross added 12 points and Layla Dixon added 11 points as the Cougars now sit at 22-2, 7-0.
