Moose on the Loose: Where will Bill Belichick end up?

NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Think about this for a second: we might go through the coaching hiring cycle in the NFL and Bill Belichick might not get a job! He's arguably the greatest coach the sport has ever seen and might not get an opportunity to do what he does best next season.

Belichick has had two interviews with the Atlanta Falcons. But ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Falcons plan to hire Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris as their next head coach. Owner Arthur Blank and the Falcons interviewed more than a dozen candidates since deciding to part ways with Arthur Smith after this past season.

Oddly enough, we went through this when Tom Brady left New England and hit free agency, where many teams were not falling over themselves to sign him. Brady landed in Tampa Bay and won a Super Bowl.

We also saw this with Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson when he was a restricted free agent ahead of this past season and you had teams coming out and issuing statements that they were not interested. He signed a five-year, $260 million deal with the Ravens, should be the MVP this year and is a victory away from leading Baltimore to the Super Bowl.

So, in a league where winning is so difficult, is it possible that Belichick will not land a head coaching job, but Dave Canales and Brian Callahan will? The only team that we know of that had interest in Belichick was Atlanta. Does that make any sense whatsoever? Maybe teams and executives in power do not want to embrace Belichick for the simple reason of self-preservation.

I know Belichick is 71 years old, but if you are Blank, who has pursued both Joe Gibbs and Bill Parcells in the past, you should've gotten the franchise and culture-changing Belichick. Football is hard, but this decision is not.

There is now a distinct possibility that Belichick is left out in the cold, amazingly enough.
