De La Salle shuts out Clovis North in state playoff game

CONCORD, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The Clovis North High School football team won a league title and a section title, but the Broncos will not be winning a state title in 2023.

On Friday, in the Division 1-AA north state regional bowl game, the Broncos lost at De La Salle, 41-0.

"They have a ton to be proud of. Ultimately, this is a learning experience for everybody across the board," said De La Salle head coach Justin Alumbaugh. "Our first state championship that we played in, we lost. In 2006. And we had to learn from that. And there was still a lot to be proud of from that season. They won a section championship, they won a league championship and they were undefeated until (Friday) night. There are not a lot of teams playing for NorCal championships right now and if you are, you did a lot of great things in your season."

Clovis North was looking for its first-ever regional championship against one of the storied programs in the state of California. However, the Broncos never got things going while the Spartans scored on all five of their possessions in the first half, leading to a 33-0 score at the break.
