GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The first and second rounds of the CHSAA 5A State Softball Championship were hosted at regional sites all across the state. The No. 5 seed Fruita Monument Wildcats hosted one of these regional pods at Canyon View Park.
The Wildcats stomped No. 28 Bear Creek in the first round 10-0 and No. 12 Legend beat No. 21 Central 12-2 as well to advance to the second round. No. 5 Fruita Monument and No. 12 Legend faced each other for a spot in the state tournament, but the lower seed would get the best of the Wildcats 9-3.
The final spot in the state tournament was determined in a consolation matchup between Fruita Monument and Central. In a hard fought game, the Wildcats came out on top 7-3 and they book their ticket to the state tournament.
