(INSIDE CALIFORNIA POLITICS) — Former Los Angeles Mayor and candidate for California governor Antonio Villaraigosa joined Inside California Politics this week to discuss his priorities for the state.
In a poll released by Emerson College on Friday, Villaraigosa (5%) trailed fellow Democrat Katie Porter (14.7%) as well as Republican frontrunners Steve Hilton (15.7%) and Chad Bianco (10.7%). Nearly forty percent of California voters remain undecided.
Villaraigosa's interview focused largely on the state's affordability crisis and how to lower prices for consumers who are struggling to get by. The Democrat said if he's elected, he'll push for a suspension of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) in order to fast track housing construction. The gubernatorial candidate also criticized Governor Gavin Newsom's administration and the California Legislature for failing to provide adequate funding to implement Proposition 36.
