TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) - The pressure is on in Washington, D.C. as Democrats and Republicans continue to clash on day six of the government shutdown.

Here in Florida, leaders are hoping a quick fix comes soon.

"How did we get here? Why is Washington tied into a knot right now?" said Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-La.) on day six of the shutdown.

Republicans in D.C. keep stressing their "clean" measure, hoping Democrats will vote to fund the government through Nov. 21, while Democrats continue to fight for a seat at the table.

Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried weighed in on the showdown, saying she is holding out hope that Republicans and Democrats will put aside their partisan differences.

"We have power here in the state of Florida to cut deals always; we have 28 members of Congress," said Fried.

On the Republican side, Florida GOP chairman Evan Power doesn't seem to have faith Democrats will vote to open the government back up.

"The Democrats in the Senate are trying to hold the process hostage for a $1.5 trillion wish list that includes funding illegal aliens and able to work males on health care. It's a simple thing; the Democrats have held this up. This is the Schumer shutdown, and they need to get on board quickly," said Power.

However, for Fried, there is hope that bipartisan support and cooperation will prevail.

"Florida congressional delegation, I'm asking you, and hoping that you listen to your constituents and find a way to come together. Put the partisan differences aside, put Floridians first, please," said Fried.

It remains unknown when the government shutdown will come to an end, as Floridians only start to see the impacts it could have here in the state.
