NEW YORK (PIX11) – The New York City Council recently filed a lawsuit to stop Mayor Eric Adams’ executive order allowing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to operate an office on Rikers Island.
Despite the lawsuit, New York City Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Kaz Daughtry said the Adams administration is “moving full steam ahead” with its plan. In addition to ICE, Daughtry said the FBI, DEA, ATF, the Postal Inspectors, and the DOJ would also operate on Rikers Island.
“We’re not going to slow down public safety because there is a lawsuit. Unless the courts tell us something, we are moving full steam ahead to have these federal authorities on the island,” Daughtry said. “This is a good move, and this is going to keep New Yorkers safe. We are going after these public safety threats.”
