Florida city commissioner arrested on fraud, elderly exploitation charges: FDLE

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) -- The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) announced the arrest of Orlando Commissioner Regina Hill, 58, on Thursday.

FDLE said the arrest came following investigations of elderly exploration and fraud, with Hill facing seven charges in total, including three counts of exploitation of the elderly, mortgage fraud, scheme to defraud, and two counts of fraud.

Hill had been accused of spending thousands of dollars from a 96-year-old woman's savings account for personal gain. The victim was the last member of her family in the area, FDLE said.

FDLE said the investigation began in Feb. 2023 after a complaint alleged Hill was taking advantage of the victim who lived in a run-down home.

Hill reportedly obtained power of attorney over the victim and used the victim's finances to buy a home, expensive personal effects such as perfumes, and pay off her debts.

FDLE said Hill moved into a home the victim inherited and used the victim's finances to renovate the home while the victim was left to live in her home, which was in a state of disrepair.

The victim was reportedly unaware of how much she had signed over to Commissioner Hill.

FDLE said they are unaware of other victims but the investigation is ongoing.
