Flight carrying Floridians stuck in Haiti to land in Sanford, Gov. DeSantis confirms

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) -- Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis confirmed a flight carrying Floridians who were stuck in Haiti will land in Sanford on Wednesday evening.

Speaking at the Orlando Sanford International Airport, the Florida governor said it will be the first of many flights.

"We can finally report that a plane carrying passengers has left Haitian airspace and is on the way here to (the) Sanford airport in Central Florida," DeSantis said. "This will be the first of probably many flights to bring people, U.S. citizens, Florida residents obviously, who are in harm's way given what's going on in Haiti."

"It is a very complicated process," said Florida Division of Emergency Management Director Kevin Guthrie. "We were originally scheduled to do four flights today. I'm proud to say that we're going to get one done."

The state previously tried to get flights done on Tuesday but was unable to, according to NBC affiliate WESH.
