GOP more likely to rally around nominee than Dems: State chair

(NewsNation) — The chair of the South Carolina Republican Party told “NewsNation Now” that the GOP is “more likely” to pull its party together and support its nominee than Democrats are.

“Our primary is for a reason: People pick their favorite candidates … and we begin to work to bring the party back together,” said Drew McKissick.” "Because at the end of the day, we end up with an A-B proposition, there's going to be a Democrat, and there’s going to be a Republican.”

McKissick said he’s not concerned about a party feud between supporters of Nikki Haley and those of former President Donald Trump.

“(Not everyone) is going to be 100% happy with whoever the nominee might be. But the point is, we're more likely to pull our party together and support our nominee in the fall than Democrats are,” McKissick said.

A Trump victory in the South Carolina primary Saturday would give the former president his fourth straight win in early primary and caucus states after already winning in Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada.

Haley, however, who was twice elected South Carolina governor and then served as Trump's U.N. ambassador, has a chance to narrow the margin and dampen Trump’s momentum.
