TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) -- The Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Ron Turner announced vote-by-mail ballots are beginning to ship out to registered Republican voters.

More than 25,000 ballots will be mailed out for the Presidential Preference Primary on March 19. Only registered Republican voters may vote in the primary, which helps to decide the Republican nominees for the Presidential election held this November.

“It’s important to remember that since the state Democratic Party already selected its candidate
for the party’s nomination for president, only the Republican Party will hold a statewide
presidential primary,” Turner said. “To vote in it, you must be a registered Republican by the
voter registration deadline on February 20.”

Turner also noted that voters can request a vote-by-mail ballot until 5 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 7. Voters must request a vote-by-mail ballot every two years under a new Florida law passed in 2022.

In addition to Sarasota County, Hillsborough County vote-by-mail ballots are set to be mailed out this month.
