NEW YORK (PIX11) -- When someone tells you they are going to do something, how can you be upset when they do it.
On MLB radio three weeks ago, New York Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman said there was no lane for prospect Jasson Dominguez on the major league team right now.
So, as the Yankees expanded their rosters Sunday, they activated Anthony Rizzo and called up outfielders Duke Ellis to go along with relievers Scott Effross and Ron Marinaccio.
Now, here is the rub. Why no Lane? Because of Alex Verdugo? The Yankees left fielder has hit a little as of late, but he hit ninth yesterday in a 14-7 loss and you cannot emphasize his defense when the Yankees have made 81 errors as a team this season.
The Yankees are defined by Soto and Judge on offense.
Does Judge's friendship with Verdugo play a role in the decision? I don't think so.
The Yankees have numerous issues: the back end of the bullpen, starting rotation, defense, lack of success against lefty starters and no recent success in October to lean back on.
When the GM tells you that there is no lane right now for Jasson Dominguez, you should believe him. There cannot be this outrage that we have seen.
Could that change over the next month? For sure. But it needs to be abundantly clear like it became with DJ LeMahieu and Gary Sanchez and Gleyber Torres at shortstop.
The Yankees seem to move at a glacial pace with these decisions.
Until next time, New York, I'm Marc Malusis.
